Who We Are...
The YWCA is the oldest and largest multicultural women's organization in the world. As a society, we've come a long way in eliminating racism and empowering women. But we have a long way to go...

THE YWCA AND WHAT WE DO...
The YWCA has actively worked to eliminate racism and empower women since 1858. We were there through suffrage. We held the first interracial conference in the South in the early 20th century. We fought for civil rights and affirmative action, but we can't merely legislate our way towards equality. We also need to change people's hearts and minds. We need to stop the routine degradation of women, whether it's in pop culture or in their homes. We need to continue the conversation on racial equality, because people of color are still not completely accepted in American society.

This is precisely what we intend to do. Whether it's improving an abuse victim's situation, providing quality childcare for a single mother, training women for non-traditional careers, or advocating for racial justice, we will live our mission and do whatever it takes to eliminate racism and empower women.
